About the Program
The 737-800 Next Generation shares a type rating with the Classics, but the flight deck is a different world — glass displays, a modern FMS, VNAV procedures, and updated systems throughout. The FAA's Boeing 737 Flight Standardization Board report defines exactly what training the transition requires, and our differences courses are approved to those Master Differences Requirements.
We run two versions of the course: -200 to -800 and -300/-400/-500 to -800, identical in footprint. You'll complete 16 hours of NG systems training at home on CPAT courseware, then train on site through ground school, two systems-integration sessions, NG preflight inspection training, and four full-flight simulator modules — finishing with a complete 61.58 proficiency check in the -800.
Like our initial course, differences training is flown crew-style, and paired pilots get four-hour simulator sessions where solo students are scheduled for three — so bringing a partner means paying less and flying more. The course also restores your full 61.57 currency in the same visit.
What to Expect
Built to the FSB Report
Training and checking follow the FAA Flight Standardization Board's Master Differences Requirements for the 737 — the official standard for Classic-to-NG transitions.
Glass Cockpit Transition
Structured coverage of the Common Display System, FMS, VNAV operations, and every system difference between your Classic and the -800.
More Sim Time When Paired
Paired crews fly four-hour simulator modules versus three solo — more time in the NG flight deck and a lower per-pilot price.
Check Included
The course concludes with a full 61.58 PIC proficiency check in the -800, plus restored 61.57 day, night, and instrument currency.
Common Questions
Which differences course do I need?
If you fly the 737-100 or -200, the '200 to 800' course. If you fly the -300, -400, or -500, the '300 to 800' course. Both are $7,499 per pilot in Miami and $8,499 in Dallas, paired with a two-pilot minimum.
What are the prerequisites?
A B737 type rating with a PIC proficiency check in your Classic variant within the last 25 months, plus a PIC check in a multi-crew or turbojet aircraft within the last 13 months. Not sure you qualify? Call and we'll review your record.
How long is the course?
Sixteen hours of CPAT home study, then roughly eight training days on site: ground school and validation exam, two systems-integration sessions, four full-flight simulator modules, and the proficiency check.
Do I get a new type rating?
No new rating is needed — the -800 shares the B-737 type rating. What you get is FAA-required differences training to the FSB standard, a fresh 61.58 proficiency check in the -800, and full currency.
