How the Course Runs

1. 1

   Systems Training at Home — CPAT Distance Learning

   Complete the full B737-800 aircraft-systems ground course (about 40 hours) from home on CPAT Global courseware before you arrive — hydraulics, electrics, engines and APU, flight controls, FMS, automatic flight, warning systems and more. You show up to the training center already knowing the airplane.

   On-Site Ground School & Validation Exam — 1 Day

   One focused day at AVS covering general operational subjects — performance and limitations, weight and balance, upset recovery, crew resource management — capped by your proctored validation examination.

   Systems Integration Training (SIT) — 4 Sessions

   Four four-hour SIT sessions link ground knowledge to the flight deck: normal procedures, decompression and emergency descent, engine-inoperative procedures, and LNAV/VNAV approaches — flown crew-style with flows, callouts, and checklist discipline.

   Full-Flight Simulator — 7 Training Modules

   Seven simulator modules in the B737-800 full-flight simulator: normal procedures, emergency descent, engine-out work including V1 cuts, hydraulic and flight-control malfunctions, practical test review, and a full line-oriented flight (LOFT). Paired crews fly four-hour sessions alternating pilot flying and pilot monitoring.

   FAA Practical Test

   Your checkride to Airline Transport Pilot ACS standards: the oral examination, aircraft preflight inspection, and the simulator practical test. Pass, and the B737 type rating goes on your certificate.

About the Program

The Boeing 737 is the most widely flown airliner in history, and a type rating on it is one of the strongest credentials a professional pilot can hold. This is our flagship course: the complete FAA-approved Part 142 initial type rating on the B737-800, from first systems lesson to the checkride.

The course is built so you spend your time at the training center flying, not sitting in a classroom. All aircraft-systems training is completed at home through CPAT Global distance learning. On site, you get one day of ground school and your validation exam, four systems-integration sessions that bridge knowledge into procedures, and seven full-flight simulator modules flown to airline standards — steep turns, stall series with MCAS demonstration, V1 cuts, engine-out approaches, autoland, manual reversion, and a full LOFT line flight — before your three-part FAA practical test.

Training is crew-based: you and your training partner alternate pilot flying and pilot monitoring, exactly as airline crews operate. That's why our pricing is paired with a two-pilot minimum — you pay less per pilot and get more simulator time than solo training, and you graduate with real crew resource management experience, which is precisely what airline hiring departments look for.

The course can also satisfy an initial ATP certificate (61.153) alongside the type rating, and if you need the high-altitude endorsement under 61.31(g), we deliver that training during the course at no extra step. Pricing is based on the FAA-approved minimum footprint; if you need extra simulator time to reach standards, it's billed separately — we'll always talk to you first.
